A solid defensive performance, and a well worked goal on the break, provided the platform for Queens to record an impressive 1-1 draw against Aberdeen at Pittrodrie as they held on to take the game to a replay at Palmerston.

Scott McLaughlin’s goal early in the 2nd period had the 480+ Queens fans dreaming of another cup upset, but the SPL side produced an equaliser from Scott Vernon, and although the home team ended the game well on top, the Queens rearguard-led by the outstanding Craig Reid-held on for an unlikely result.

Aberdeen boss Craig Brown was full of praise for Queens, reflecting on a game plan carried out to almost perfection, although he was insistent that it would be his team that makes it through to the next round and a clash with SPL side Motherwell at Fir Park. With that game now behind them, and the prospect of a brilliant night at Palmerston to come, Queens must now concentrate on a vitally important game at Ayr this weekend as they aim to extend their recent run of 5 games unbeaten whilst they continue their effort to climb away from the foot of the table.
