Queens gave themselves a massive chance of remaining in the 1st division after coming out on top against Ayr at Palmerston on Saturday. Two first half goals, one from Allan Johnston and the other from Sam Parkin, paved the way for the victory, and although Ayr reduced the arrears with 12 minutes left, Queens hung on for the win.

In a much improved performance from the previous home game against Partick, Queens showed plenty of fighting spirit and desire to win, and all there was not to much in the way of good football on show, the result was all that really mattered. Every player contributed to the victory, with particular mention to Kevin Holt, Allan Johnston and Sam Parkin, as well as Craig Reid who was chosen as sponsors man-of-the-match. The biggest league gate of the season of 2079 was boosted by a considerable contingent from Ayr who supported their side with vociferous backing for the entire match, and were a credit to themselves and their team. A mention also to Ayr boss and former Queens player Brian Reid who was gracious in defeat, staying to shake the hand of every Queens player at the final whistle even though he must have been bitterly disappointed at the result, many lessons to be learned from that very decent reaction to losing a game-well done Mr.Reid.

Queens now face two tricky away games against Morton, and then 3 days later against Dundee, before returning to Palmerston to take on Falkirk, 4 points from these two fixtures would be fantastic, but 3 would be very welcome at the very least. So it’s virtually six cup -finals to play between now and May 5th if Queens are to remain in the 1st division.

Allan Johnston, scorer of Queens first goal on Saturday has now scored 3 goals this season, and Queens have won all three of those games, not a massive stat but the Queens player coach played a really big part during Saturday’s win,and he took his goal really calmly, and maybe it was as well for Queens that he was the player in that position, and with the pressure now building as the season comes to an end,his experience could be so valuable for Queens.
