Another win for Queens at second placed Alloa this afternoon means that a victory over Brechin on Wednesday will see Queens confirmed as champions. The league leaders went in front 5 minutes before the break when leading scorer Nicky Clark bagged his 23rd league goal of the season with a smart finish from close range following a free-kick. A decent half in which Queens ‘keeper Lee Robinson produced a couple of smart saves to keep his side in the game, and Alloa would have been disappointed to go into the interval a goal behind.

The home side drew level early in the 2nd period when Cawley headed home a cross from Gordon. The goal boosted Alloa, and they almost went ahead soon after, but Chris Higgins got back in time to clear Elliot’s shot off the line. Robinson denied Grehan with another fine stop, and then a tremendous effort from Elliot beat the Queens’ ‘keeper, but crashed against the crossbar. Ryan McGuffie replaced Mark Durnan, and with 5 minutes left, McGuffie blasted home a spot-kick winner after Derek Young was fouled by Meggatt.

So league win number 24 now means that a victory away against Brechin on Wednesday night, will see Queens confirmed as champions.
